The Students’ Physiological Association of Nigeria, University of Ilorin Chapter has on Friday, 11th of October, 2019 organized a programme tagged the “Physiology Friday” to further enlighten the public about the proper care of the organs, tissues and cells enclosed in the body system to promote healthful living amongst individuals.
The President of the Association, Mr. Ayobami Oluwatobiloba explained that the society is aimed at creating a network of physiologists to enlighten and research the core disciplines of physiology. He also stated that the “Physiology Friday” shall be held on the 11th of October every year to celebrate physiology and enlighten people about the importance of the knowledge and study of physiology.
The President of the Association stated the day is to comprise of awareness visits to villages, baking cakes carved in the shapes of any of the organs of the body, publication of articles on the core values and importance of physiology and programmes aimed to enlighten the public of the essence of the day. He stated that the event was held at the PAM Theatre, University of Ilorin. It is also aimed at imbuing the knowledge of measurements of blood pressure in Physiology students, sport exercises and career opportunities in the sphere.
At the event, Mr Sodimu Ayobami Tobi took the session on blood pressure and how it could be effectively managed and measured. The audience, in the spirit of the event, got their blood pressure measured and advised on how it could be managed in the sustenance of their health.
Mr Obaoye Ayomide Olamide talked about the Electrocardiogram (ECG) in the measurements, diagnosis and detection of the heart’s abnormalities. Mr Yusuf Abdur-Rahman Omeiza (Felicity) discussed sport physiology and how physical exercises could go a long way in strengthening the physiological status of the body. At the event, Mr Abdul-Kareem Yusuf Opeyemi discussed about career opportunities in the field of physiology, mentioning prospects for physiologists in the biomedicals and clinicals as biomedical scientists, clinical research associates, exercise physiologists, pharamacologists and medical research scientists.
Students at the event are enjoined to check their physiological statuses during medical checkups to ensure healthy living and sustenance of health and strength in the bodies of individuals, thereby prolonging their lives and ensuring steady growths of the organs of the body.
