Be a good ambassador of Unilorin, Omoluabi admonishes freshers

 The University of Ilorin Students Union President, Comrade Waliu Taofik Opeyemi has advised freshers to ensure that they protect the good image of the university.

Waliu made this call on Thursday at the 30th Faculty of Arts Students Association’s Orientation Programme held at the faculty lecture theatre.

“Take to heart three key points while on Campus, the CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) matters in whatever one wants to do in Unilorin or outside, focus on attaining first class in their first year, and engage in extracurricular activities that matters,” the president said.

“Be good ambassadors of the varsity. The school has a special acclimation with character and learning.”

In a similar vein, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. A S Abubakar, highlighted some qualities to the new students that are expected of them. He stated that personal Integrity, orderliness and , ecency, proper utilization of one’s life and time are some of the attributes expected of a good student.

He said: “What we need to sustain our name after death is integrity. Learning starts from the day you’re born to the day you’ll die. It is only a person who does not have a dream that moves with the crowd.”

Out of the five departments that participated, the English Department representative, Akinyemi Abisola Deborah emerged as the winner of the faculty’s second Oratory Contest which coincided with the Orientation Programme.

Other participants are Rufai Jamiu Oladosu from the Religions Department; Tiamiyu Abdulmujeeb Kehinde represented French department; Joseph Adelola Priscilla represented the Department of Linguistics, and Peter Ebere represented the History department.

Deborah earned herself an automatic ticket to represent the faculty in any debate contest. As the winner of the second oratory contest, she was also given the privilege to go on a lunch with the President of the Faculty and the Students Union President.
