On April 9th 2022, news circulated the media about the ECOWAS Youth Council’s ambassador; a 400 level law student in the University of Ilorin.

“I’ve always looked up to my Father”, Dauda Abdurrazaq Gidado, ECOWAS Youth Council Ambassador revealed. “Sometimes ago, in my freshman year at Unilorin, my father told me that: “in this life, there’s no space. You need to create space for yourself”.

Gidado is a 400 level law student at the University of Ilorin. Having moved from Maiduguri to Ilorin where he currently studies, the 21 year old has achieved remarkable feat in the city and even beyond its borders, spanning countries. As a young fellow who believes in the mantra of putting people first, he has sustained remarkable relationships that’ll help him even in future. “My father knows a lot of people but most of the people I have built relationship with is due to my personal effort”.

“I have a firm belief in helping people. The best way I have yet seen in finding oneself is losing oneself in the service for others”, he added.

He has always been called a Barrister since he was young in his home. Living by the dreams of his parents and becoming what they had expected him to be, it wouldn’t be hard for him to scale through with or without his parent’s cooperation.

Prior to being an ambassador, he’d been acknowledged for different awards and recognitions which includes: Most Promising Activist of the Year By Human Rights Chambers, University of Ilorin in 2019; Most Supportive Law student in Nigeria By Law Student Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN) in 2020; Law student of the year by Law Students Society, University of Ilorin (LSS Unilorin) in 2021; Confirmed as Commander of Order of Law Students association of NIGERIA (COL) by Law Students Association of Nigeria in 2021; Most Supportive Activist of the year Human Rights Chambers, University of Ilorin in 2022; Confirmed as Senior Activist of Human Rights Chamber (SAHRC) by Human Rights Chambers, University of Ilorin; Most Supportive student In Unilorin by Unilorin Student Union; Most Supportive Law student By Law Students Society, Unilorin.

“I’m more focused with my studies. Because without my studies I’m going no where,” Gidado said.

Gidado believes his hard work and effort verified him for the position. “I have engaged with a lot of youths not in Nigeria alone, but Africa at large. That’s why I was also a recipient of Nelson Mandela Leadership Award Of Excellence and Integrity”.

He marked the record of being the youngest ECOWAS Youth Council’s Ambassador.
