College Press emerges as the best Local Press Outfit after just six months of establishment

College Press, the only organized body of campus journalists in College of Health Sciences, University of Ilorin, has won the prestigious Local Press Outfit of the Year award at the 2022 Press Dinner and Award Night of the Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ) UNILORIN.

Coming less than a year after College Press was established, the award celebrates the excellence of pressmen projecting the peculiarities of events in their correspondence units.

College Press stood tall over and above other local press outfits under the UCJ by beating stiff competition from LSS Press and FASA Press, covering the Faculty of Law and Faculty of Arts, respectively.

Two pressmen from College Press, Obansa Ashraf and Ibrahim Nafisa represented the COHS to receive the  Awards of Recognition at the event, held at the Place of Pleasure, Unity, Ilorin.

The award promises to be the first of many for pressmen and the press outfit in COHS.

From the outset, the goal of College Press is to practice a kind of campus journalism that serves not only students in COHS but the whole College at large.

This is in following the advice of the Dean of Clinical Sciences, COHS, Prof. Ibrahim Katibi who charged pressmen not to relent on their ability “to manifest the key components of journalisms” when College Press executives paid him a courtesy visit about five months ago.

In the months that followed, College Press has published more than 10 news reports covering a range of events and happenings within COHS.

The General Secretary, College Press, Ms. Nafisa thanked the UCJ Press Council for recognizing the efforts of pressmen in COHS with the award.

“I hope that this award encourages Pressmen in COHS to do more and stay committed regardless of how tiring the process might be. This is just the beginning.”
