The university of Ilorin chapter of National Association of Osun State students on Wednesday, 24th of May, organised a summit on youth leadership and academic excellence.
The programme which was the second edition by the association saw the convergence of illustrious sons and daughters of Osun State at the event. Where issues relating to leadership and academic excellence were deliberated.
Earlier in his welcoming speech, the convener of the summit who couples as the current president of the indigenous association, Comrade Afolabi AbdulMalik Omogbolahan stated that NAOSS is an umbrella body of all students from the state and it was set out to promote the heritage of the state at the grassroot level.
In the cause of the program which was tagged “Leadership and Academic Excellence: A coin of two opposing sides?”, The keynote speaker, Chief Magistrate at Osun State Judiciary, Mrs. Habibat Bashiru took the audience through the concept of leadership, its traits, nature and scopes, and its associated theories for better understanding by the audience.
According to her, leadership means giving the lead to others. “Leadership is an action of leading back groupnof people in a society or organisation.” While on the aspect of Academic Excellence, she opined that excellence in academic is the function of being outstanding in academy and at something other than that.
Later on, the program also witnessed awards presentation to outstanding members and dignitaries; the launching of the association’s Android Apps and the panelists session where issues relating to self development in the face of social and other limiting factors were discussed. Amongst the assembled panelists were Magistrate Habibat Bashiru, the representative of Alhaji Adiamo, Mr Tunde Adiamo; A member of Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Babatunde Olatunji who had earlier made donation to the association. The session was anchored by Omotayo Idris, the university Students’ Union Attorney General.
Other dignitaries at the event were the Sub Dean of the university Students’ Affairs, Dr Alex Akanmu; the Students’ Union President, Com. Animasahun Oluseyi and his Senate council counterpart, Mr Akano Jesunifemi, amongst others.
