The university management, meanwhile, through a release from the office of the Sub Dean of Student’s Affairs Unit, had sued for calm amongst the students saying the management “appeal for no panic situation as there is no need for such… students are enjoined to remain calm, go about their normal activities, move in group where necessary”, the statement which was broadcasted via WhatsApp messenger reads in part.

Olamide had since been taken to the school clinic for treatment.

Similar event was rumoured to happen last week to a 400 level students. UCJ-UNILORIN effort to reach out to the previous victim proved abortive as through a friend, the victim said they were not interested in making a public issue.

University of Ilorin resumed academic activities with e-learning system on January 11. This then followed by a phased arrangements for physical resumptions of students to the campus.

However, following the commencement of industrial action embarked on by the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (SANU) and Senior Staff of Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the university instructed that 100 level students should stay away from the university campus as the effects of the strike had made residing in the campus unpalatable. The same directives were on Monday given to other students in their penultimate years. This adds a week to their resumption according to the released phased resumptions of classes.
