The press outfit of the Law Students’ Society, Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin conducted a twitter poll on the 5th of August, 2020. The reason being to hear and figure out the thoughts of students, mostly the final year class of 2020 who might just as well be the final year class of “2021” as the corona virus is still prevalent.

Students are tired of being at home for so long and probably, not doing anything productive or worthwhile.

The poll however received a total of 180 votes-

61% on the opinion that schools should resume; 26% on the opinion that schools should not resume; 13% on an indifferent thought.

In the comments section, a twitter user with the handle- @IamAdedo expressed his opinion with regards how unfit the school is to resume. He said;

_”the school will definitely not follow any safety measures put in place”.

Overpopulation is one of the top stand out features of the University. Incidences that go way back to the rowdiness at the CBT center during tests and examinations, faculties merging for a PLB course (of over 1000 students) in a 600-seater hall.

Though, there have been several information about the management of the University installing wash hand basins all around school and putting in place other preventive measures. In fact, a statement was released on the 5th of August, 2020 on the official twitter handle of the SU President of the University confirming the fixation of these wash hand basins at the entrances of both public and private hostels on campus.

Does this actually prove that the better by far University is ready to be open and running for academic activities?

Would the University be able to provide spacious halls to maintain the “6-feet” safety rule in order not to spread the virus?

These questions and more remain unanswered concerning resumption amidst the pandemic.
