The Saudis have presented shifting stories about Jamal Khashoggi’s death, initially denying before finally admitting that a group of rogue operators, many of whom belongs to crowned Prince Muhammad bin Salman’s inner circle, did the killing.

Riyadh has maintained that King Salman and crowned Prince Muhammad bin Salman had nothing to do with the operation to target Khashoggi. However, US officials have said that such an operation could not have been carried out without the authorization of Bin Salman.

After Saudi Arabia admitted Khashoggi was killed in its Instanbul’s consulate, five high-ranking officials were dismissed, including bin Salman’s media chief and the deputy head of the Saudi Intelligence service.

According to the state prosecutor and the Saudi Foreign Minister, a total of 21 people were arrested and 6 dismissed from office.

The state prosecutor had promised to seek for justice and begins trial seeking for death penalty for 5 of the 11 accused persons arraigned for trial.

The Saudi Public Prosecutor submitted formal requests to Turkish authorities to officially share evidence and information related to this case, including any recordings in the possession of Turkish authorities. The Saudi Public Prosecutor is still awaiting response to these requests, said an official from the Saudi embassy in Washington.
