Friday, 5th July, 2019 avouched the general elections of the executive members of the Student Union Bar, University of Ilorin. The election exercise was held at LR3, faculty of law, where the student legal practitioners of the Union wielded their constitutional right to vote.
After the completion of the exercise, results were scrupulously collated by the Electoral Committee of the Students’ Union Bar (ECSUBA). Afterwards, the ECSUBA Chairman, Eleja Ibrahim, announced the whole results of the election by 6:00pm in the evening.
Having met the constitutional requirement of the 60% of the votes cast, Omopupa Muhammad Awwal, Abiola Amina Abidemi and Taofik Waliu Opeyemi, who vied for the unopposed offices of the President, Vice President and Registrar, respectively, surfaced to have been duly elected.
Other results announced included the office of Director of Information where Adedimeji Quayyim Abdulhafeez polled 38 votes to outshine his political rival, Lawal Olabisi Ikmot who had 33 votes, and also the office of Director of finance where Balogun Aminat Oyindamola overmatched Bello Shukurat Okikiola with a difference of 26 votes to emerge as the winner.
According to the ECSUBA Chairman, “Only the practitioners who fulfilled their financial obligations were permitted to vote. However, some practitioners were allowed to cast their votes after paying their practicing fee at the polling unit.”
