The Students’ Union Court has on Tuesday the 5th of February, 2019 ordered its Financial Secretary Accountant Cole and Public Relations Officer Analyzer to publish the financial details of all costs incurred in all fifteen faculties of the university in compliance with the SU constitution.

In furtherance of the argument canvassed by the plaintiff in the written address contained in the court process, counsel to the Plaintiff, Mr. Abdul Pelumi Ganiyu emphasised and stated that the provision of the Constitution should be binding and enforced by the defendants as it is a law entrenched in the constitution and the duty has been assigned to their offices.

Counsels to the defendants, Mr. Isiaka Azeez and Mr. Taofik Waliu in their counter argument stated that the defendants are well aware of their constitutional duties and they had been commanded by the students affairs unit of the university not to publish the accounts yet. They further posited that the officers of the students handbook is superior to the students union constitution and that it would prevail whenever it bothers on matters affecting officers of the union and the students.

The court ruled that although the students handbook is superior to the students union constitution, the affidavit of the defendants failed to adequately prove and show that the defendants had been ordered not to publish the accounts. The court also ruled that the accounts should be published in all faculties within a reasonable time after the plaintiff should be paid a sum of 2000 naira as litigation fees.
