The TEDxUnilorin, an independently organized TED-licensed event where speakers from different realms and backgrounds are invited to speak on a theme, is now scheduled to hold on the 13th of August, 2021.The event which was initially scheduled to be held on the 28th of March, 2020, had to be postponed indefinitely due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the ASUU strike. In an interview with the Head of Communications of TEDxUnilorin, Afolabi Bidemi, mentioned that notwithstanding the huge setback that they have faced, they do have a lot in stock and expressed optimism on the success of the event. In introducing TEDxUnilorin, Mr. Bidemi stated that “TEDxUnilorin is an independently staged TED event that brings to light global conversations that resonate with ideas worth sharing. For many, it is being part of an international community that sells brilliance across multiple niches. For us, TEDxUnilorin is a platform to engage minds that have tested the waters of creativity across many horizons and are willing to share some of the brightest ideas they’ve been able to envisage over the cause of time. What makes it even more interesting is that it would be happening here in the University of Ilorin.”Stating the event’s objectives, Mr. Afolabi mentioned that “when we decided to get into seeking a license for TEDxUniloin, our dream was to use it to steer conversations by creatives in Africa and for creatives in Africa or anyone who would love to be a part of it. We want to make it a hub for creativity across multiple strata. However, that wasn’t the absolute vision. TEDxUnilorin is meant to tell an intergenerational story that cuts across time. Hence our decision to theme it “ROOTS”, which largely would connect us to ideas of “Today—Yesterday—Tomorrow”.He further stated that the TEDxUnilorin is open to all who want to be part of a global community of idea sharers. The only condition, he mentioned is “for them to book their tickets, although it is limited to just 100 slots. So we need those interested to rush and book theirs. It’s just at a token price of ₦2,000. The token amount is just to help us with some areas in the planning of the event. We hope to see a massive turn out of ticket bookings in the coming days.” He expressed that the success of the event is being worked on, to ensure that the organization explores its fullest potentials. The event is expected to serve the yearning concerns of the creative community on campus, in ensuring that important conversations are being voiced out through respectable platforms.
