TETFund carries out self assessment

Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, on Thursday, inaugurated a technical advisory committee to assess the impact TETFund has had in 20 years in different areas of intervention.

Prof. Suleiman Bogoro, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, who inaugurated the advisory committee in Abuja, stated that TETFund has invested billions of Naira in infrastructural developments and it is only essential to check up on its impact in the past 20 years.

In the same vein, the said that the results gathered from this assessment would act as a guide for TETFund in policy formulations and other programmes that would help the Fund achieve its target goals and objectives.

Suleiman recalled that the exercise has been one of the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, and other stakeholders in a bid to strengthen the interventions or suggest new ideas for more productive impact.

The team is being co-chaired by former Vice Chancellor, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia state, Prof. Placid Njoku, with membership from ASUU, civil rights groups and the students body.

According to the TETFund head, the areas of coverage include different infrastructural interventions, research, trainings, academic journals amongst others.

He then urged the committee members to show a level of commitment and diligence to the responsibilities so they can produce positive outcomes that would enhance the impact of TETFund further.

Prof. Njoku, the co-chairman of the committee doled out lots of promises in his acceptance speech, he pledged to work diligently to meet the expectations of the FG and other officials that found them worthy of the responsibility.

On a final note, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, ASUU President, also pledged the support of the union to the exercise, hoping that it would herald the much expected transformation in TETFund intervention in infrastructural provisions.
