As part of the faculty of law Unilorin’s 25th anniversary celebration, the public presentation of the jurist, an annual law journal of the faculty was done at the university auditorium on 25th April, 2019.
The faculty’s first substantive dean, Mr. M T. Abdulrazaq was the year’s honouree
The occasion was graced by Students, Doctors and Professors of Law; Senior Advocates of Nigeria; Lecturers; Alumni of the Faculty; Friends and Families of the honouree; well wishers.
Mwr. Bashiru Omipidan, lecturer at the department of private and property law and an alumnus, while delivering the anniversary speech gave brief history of the faculty, stating her achievements and challenges. He particularly appreciated the honouree’s effort in ensuring that the 1999 set made it to the Nigerian Law School.
The guest speaker, Mr. Bimbo Atilola, a commissioner at the Tax Appeal Tribunal delivered a lecture on the topic “Beyond figures: Taxation and growing opportunities for lawyers”. He made it known that tax is based on law. “Nobody can be taxed except there is an express provision in a statute… there is no equity in taxation”. The opportunities in taxation include, tax advisory services, tax litigation, Tax crime investigation, tax policy and reforms, tax academics, inter alia. He encouraged internship by students.
He concluded that, “It is only God that directs the steps of a man to success”.
The citation of the honouree was done by Mr. M.M. Akanbi (SAN) and the review of ‘THE JURIST’ was taken by Mr. Wahab Egbewole (SAN). The law journal was launched by Alimi Abdulrazaq on behalf of the Abdulrazaq family with a sum of 1 million Naira. Donations were equally made by other persons present
Mr. M T Abdulrazaq in his remark appreciated the LSS for honouring him and gave three lessons from the animal kingdom emphasizing the importance of humility and distinguishing oneself.
The event came to an end with a vote of thanks from Mrs Abdulrazaq, Subdean faculty of law and recitation of the university anthem.
