Unilorin Biomedical Engineering Students tour LAUTECH Teaching Hospital

In a bid to be further equipped with technical know-how of biomedical instruments, no fewer than 100 students from the department of Biomedical Engineering, University of Ilorin, on Wednesday 16th, went on a technical tour to Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomosho, Oyo State.

The move for the visit was initiated by the National Association of Biomedical Engineering society , NABMES together with the support of the Staff Advisor, Engr. Jilantikiri, Engineer Idris and the Head of Department, Dr Ibitoye.

Instructor at Lautech Teaching Hospital identified as Mr Fatoyinbo took the visiting students in batches to various sections in the hospital. Parts of the sections visited were the Magnetic Resonance Imaging unit, the Radiology Room, Renal and Dialysis unit.

Speaking with the students, Engr. Fatoyinbo enlightened the students on the use and functions of facilities visited.

Moving forward to another unit, health tips were given to the students by Mrs Adeleke from Renal/Dialysis unit. Mrs Adeleke stressed the importance of how kidney is very vital to human being. She revealed to the students that kidney problems can cost lives if not properly taken care of. She further added that most of their patients with kidney problem are students.

On this, she advised students to stay from alcohol, bleaching cream, carbonated drinks and too much salt. She said bleaching cream has mercury elements that can cause kidney failure, saying that prevention is cheaper than Alcohol.

Thereafter, she advised all students to check their blood pressure and health status regularly to stay healthy.

The tour lasted 5 hours as the students arrived the teaching hospital around 11:am and departed at about 4:00pm.
