On a wonderful day of Wednesday, December, 2019, the Center for Peace and strategic studies held Special Lecture in celebration of the center’s 10th Anniversary of its existence.
The lecture for the anniversary was themed: Traditional Institutions as a Catalyst for Peace and Security in Nigeria, was held at the University auditorium, University of Ilorin.
C.P.S.S anniversary celebration witnessed the presence of highly placed individual in the society, the presence of traditional rulers, amongst who HRM Oba (TPL) Abdul Raheem Oladele Adeoti (Akolade Agboluaje Ilufemiloye Olomu Efon II, Olumu of Ọmu Aran), the Oloyo of Oyo Ipo, and other monarch and Mogagi’s across Kwara state.
Also from the academia are, amongst others, the Sub Dean of the Post-graduate school Professor RA Bello, the Vice- chancellor of University of Ilorin, Professor Abdul Kareem Age who was represented by the Dean of Students affairs Prof L.T Ajibade, the Dean of Faculties, and an entourage of military and paramilitary heads were recognized.
In his opening remark, the Director of the centre, Professor Nuah Yusuf commended the activities of University in the integration of peace. He appreciated the eminent personalities, monarchs and other dignitaries for honouring the centre’s invitation to the anniversary celebration.
While towing the path of memory in relation to how the centre started, he expressed the centre’s commitment to the study of peace related education amongst the students.
“The Center for Peace & Strategic Studies was established in the year 2009 during the then Vice Chancellor’s administration of Professor Isiaq Oloyede and ever since the inception of the center, we have been working on the advancement of peace education among our students and aware of the need for peace.” he expressed.
In the same vein, Dr. Oloyede humbly represented by Dr. Alilo Muhammad from the board of directors of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the Dean of Post Graduate School, Prof. A Bello, gave a casual observations on the theme of the program: “Peace is the essence of life, and the traditional institutions are the peacemakers to the societies.”
To him, added complimenting the recognition of the royalties and dignitaries. Later on, Prof L T Ajibade who was representative of the Vice chancellor, Unilorin, Professor Sulaimon Age.The Dean of the Students of affairs appreciated the invited the monarch, the imperial Majesties, the military and paramilitary officers present.
In conclusion, the Director of C.P.S.S. in conjunction with the Dean of students affairs and the controller of C.P.S.S began the issuance of awards to the awardees. The D.S.A Unilorin respectively presented the ‘Peace ambassador’ awards to the Emir of illorin, Alhaji Sulu Gambari who was represented with the chorus of ‘Sheu! Sheu!’. Also the ‘Peace ambassador award’ was presented to the Brigadier of Platoon CL. 002 of the Nigerian army who portrayed the role Lt. Tukur Buratai.
