The University of Ilorin Students’ Union Senate Council has on Friday, 7th of January, 2022 constitute an Independent Students’ Electoral Commission in its 2nd emergency sitting of the 2020/2021 academic session.
Shuaib Babatunde Adebayo who emerged as the chairman of the commission through a secret ballot vote by members of the commission has urged the university of Ilorin students to expect a free and fair election.
In an interview with the chairman, he mentioned that the principal officers of the commission are working on ensuring a free and fair election. “We are also going to create a subcommittee for the electioneering process to make sure the election will be free and fair”, he added.
On the issue of students not being able to access the school’s website during elections, he, however, mentioned that he can’t say much about it but he will try his best to ensure there’s an increase in the bandwidth this time.
“I hope this year’s election will not be like last year’s, which showed me error 504 till results were announced”. This was said by a final-year student of the university who pleaded anonymity.
He also added that he has always looked forward to the election period of last year and was sad to have not been able to vote for his favorite candidate.
